Creating Special Awards to Promote Health
Results: Four Special Awards on Health at Austin Energy Regional Science Fair (AERSF)
HTS in 2016-2017:
HTS provided science fair judges for school science fairs and 20 judges for AERSF, the regional fair which includes 33 counties. HTS in 2017-2019: HTS decided that awards that recognize health research efforts could have a multiplier effect in award recipients’ communities. HTS worked with sponsors so that they would support 4 Special Awards at AERSF, the largest science event for kids is AERSF, with more than 1600 participants and their families attending the fair. HTS provided over 60 volunteers to preselect and interview Special Award semifinalists. Additionally, many HTS volunteers also helped provide judges for the regional fair. HTS promoted health:

HTS made these Special Awards possible at the 2018 Fair:
Dr. John Bedolla, Dell Medical School Assistant Professor in Surgery & Perioperative Care, gave out 10 “Future Health Leader” diplomas and 23 Honorable Mentions.

Dr. Stephen Pont, medical director at the Texas Department of State Health Services handed Ten “Healthy Texas” diplomas.

Ms. Kate Neal, Michael and Susan Dell Center for Healthy Living Events Coordinator, presented Ten “Health Innovation” diplomas.
